The Jammu and Kashmir Electricity Board (JKEB) has increased residential and commercial power tariffs by 6.83% effective July 1, 2024. The decision follows a review of rising generation and transmission costs, as well as a need to balance the state’s electricity deficit.
Alongside the tariff hike, JKEB will introduce a time‑of‑day billing scheme. Under the new system, consumers will be charged different rates for electricity usage during peak (6 pm‑10 pm) and off‑peak hours, encouraging load shifting and better grid management.
