The local government of Jammu & Kashmir asserts that the region has the potential to develop athletes capable of competing in national and international marathon events.
The local government of Jammu & Kashmir has highlighted the state’s potential to produce athletes who can compete at both national and international marathon levels, according to a report by Daily Excelsior.
Jammu & Kashmir’s diverse terrain and high‑altitude environments are seen as natural training grounds for long‑distance runners. The state already hosts several sports training facilities that cater to endurance sports.
In addition to infrastructure, the government has introduced scholarship schemes and funding programmes aimed at nurturing young talent in athletics.
If these resources are effectively leveraged, Jammu & Kashmir could become a significant contributor to India’s presence in global marathon competitions.
