Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that all tourist destinations closed due to recent lockdowns will be reopened by May.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced today that every tourist destination currently closed in Jammu and Kashmir will be reopened by May. The announcement comes as the state government seeks to revive the tourism sector that has been severely impacted by the COVID‑19 lockdowns.
The closures, which began in March, have halted travel to popular sites such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Srinagar’s Dal Lake. The tourism industry is a major contributor to the state’s economy, providing employment to thousands of residents.
In a statement, Mr. Abdullah outlined a phased reopening plan that will include strict health protocols and coordination with local authorities to ensure visitor safety. The government has also pledged to support businesses affected by the shutdown.
Officials expect the reopening to boost local incomes and restore confidence among travelers, both domestic and international. The state aims to position Jammu and Kashmir as a safe and attractive destination once again.
