A Jalandhar resident lost Rs 1 lakh after a caller pretended to be a relative living overseas and asked for money, according to Amar Ujala.

According to a report by Amar Ujala, a resident of Jalandhar was swindled out of Rs 1 lakh when a fraudster called, imitating the voice of a family member who was said to be living abroad. The caller claimed an urgent need for cash, convincing the victim that the money would be transferred to the relative overseas.

Police investigations reveal that the scam relied on sophisticated voice‑mimicking technology, making it difficult for the victim to verify the caller's identity. The victim, unaware of the deception, transferred the amount through a bank account linked to the fraudster.

Local authorities have issued a warning to the public, urging people to verify any such requests through independent channels before sending money. The Jalandhar police have registered a case of fraud and are tracing the call records to apprehend the perpetrators.

The incident underscores the rising trend of voice‑based impersonation scams across the country, prompting calls for greater awareness and stricter cyber‑crime enforcement.
