The Deputy Commissioner of Police in Jalandhar has ordered that petrol, diesel and CNG will not be supplied to any vehicle found with broken or altered number plates.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Jalandhar issued a strict directive prohibiting the supply of petrol, diesel and CNG to any vehicle whose registration plate is broken, missing, or visibly tampered. The order aims to enforce compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act and curb the misuse of altered number plates.
Under the directive, all fuel stations across the Jalandhar district have been instructed to check the condition of a vehicle's licence plate before dispensing any fuel. Staff are required to refuse service if the plate is damaged or appears to have been altered, and to report such cases to the police.
The DCP warned that owners of non‑compliant vehicles could face legal action, including fines and possible seizure of the vehicle, as stipulated by existing traffic laws. Spot checks and verification drives are planned to ensure the rule is uniformly applied.
