Jalandhar authorities to deny fuel to vehicles with broken number plates

The Punjab police in Jalandhar have ordered fuel stations to refuse petrol and diesel to any vehicle whose registration plate is damaged or missing.
Jalandhar police have issued a directive that fuel stations within the city must turn away any vehicle whose registration plate is broken, illegible or absent. The order, circulated to all petrol pumps on Monday, aims to curb the use of unregistered or tampered vehicles on public roads.
Station owners are instructed to verify the condition of number plates before dispensing fuel. If a plate is found damaged, the attendant must refuse service and report the incident to the nearest police outpost. Violators of the directive may face a fine of up to INR 5,000.
Officials said the measure will help enforce traffic regulations and reduce the likelihood of traffic violations and accidents linked to unidentifiable vehicles. The police will conduct random checks over the next two weeks to ensure compliance across the district.
