External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar urged a balanced 'Goldilocks scenario' to handle the evolving US-China rivalry, warning against extremes of confrontation or excessive accommodation. He stressed the need for a measured approach to safeguard India's interests.
Jaishankar made the remarks while discussing India's foreign policy stance amid growing US-China tensions, emphasizing that the relationship should neither become overly hostile nor too cozy.
He used the term 'Goldilocks scenario' to describe a situation that is 'just right'—neither too hot nor too good—suggesting India should navigate the great-power competition with prudence and strategic autonomy.
The minister highlighted that such a balanced approach would allow India to engage with both powers on issues of mutual interest while protecting its sovereignty and developmental goals.
