Mayor Sunil Kothari, who assumed office earlier this month, convened his first marathon-style meeting of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Thursday. The extended session was designed to provide a rapid yet comprehensive review of the corporation’s various wings shortly after his appointment.
During the meeting, officials from more than fifteen JMC branches presented performance reports, pending projects and compliance status. Particular emphasis was placed on departments dealing with building approvals, land use and urban planning, where the mayor highlighted a surge in illegal construction and encroachment cases.
Kothari announced that the corporation would adopt stricter monitoring mechanisms and accelerate demolition orders against structures violating zoning norms. He also directed senior officers to submit weekly progress updates, signalling a proactive approach to curb unauthorized developments and improve civic service delivery.
The marathon meeting, a practice adopted by several Indian metros to ensure swift governance, is expected to become a regular feature of Kothari’s administration as he seeks to restore public confidence in municipal operations.
