On its twelfth day of release, Rajinikanth’s Jailer has overtaken the earlier blockbuster 2.0, becoming the highest‑grossing Tamil film in the industry’s history.
On Day 12 of its theatrical run, Jailer has crossed the ₹200‑crore mark, eclipsing the box‑office performance of the 2018 blockbuster 2.0. The Tamil‑language action drama, starring Rajinikanth, has now become the highest‑grossing film in Kollywood history, according to distributors’ reports.
The film’s cumulative earnings surpassed ₹210 crores, with a net collection of ₹190 crores in India alone. International markets, particularly the Gulf and Southeast Asian territories, contributed an additional ₹20 crores, pushing the total to ₹230 crores.
Industry analysts note that Jailer’s success is driven by a combination of Rajinikanth’s star power, a strong marketing campaign, and positive word‑of‑mouth from early audiences. The film’s director, S. Shankar, has also been praised for blending high‑budget action sequences with a socially relevant storyline.
With this milestone, Jailer not only redefines box‑office benchmarks for Tamil cinema but also sets a new standard for future releases in the region.
The film’s producers have announced plans to expand its release in additional international markets, aiming to further boost its global footprint.
