The sequel ‘Jailer 2’ earned ₹570 crore in its opening week, surpassing the previous Kollywood benchmark by ₹100 crore.
The Tamil‑language action drama ‘Jailer 2’ posted a first‑week collection of ₹570 crore, according to box‑office tracker TrackTollywood. This figure places the film at the top of Kollywood’s all‑time earnings chart, outpacing the former record by a margin of ₹100 crore.
Industry analysts attribute the surge to the star power of the lead actor, strong pre‑release buzz, and a wide release across more than 5,000 screens in India and overseas territories with sizable Tamil diaspora.
The unprecedented performance is expected to reshape revenue expectations for regional cinema, prompting distributors to renegotiate terms for upcoming projects. Trade bodies will monitor whether the momentum sustains in the coming weeks.
The film’s producers have announced plans for a celebratory event in Chennai, inviting cast, crew and key stakeholders to mark the milestone.
Box‑office figures will be audited by independent agencies before the final tally is confirmed, but the current data already signals a historic achievement for Kollywood.
