The sequel to the Tamil action hit Jailer has opened to impressive earnings in Kerala, drawing a wave of criticism from fans of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal.
Jailer 2, the Tamil-language action sequel starring Vikram, premiered in Kerala on Thursday, drawing crowds to multiplexes across the state.
Within its first weekend, the film reported collections exceeding ₹15 crore, making it one of the highest opening weekends for a non-Malayalam release in Kerala.
However, the film's release sparked a wave of criticism from fans of Malayalam actor Mohanlal, who expressed disappointment over the lack of a Malayalam dubbed version and felt the film was a missed opportunity to collaborate with the veteran star.
Despite the backlash, distributors reported that the film's performance remained robust, and industry insiders say the success could pave the way for more cross‑regional releases in the future.
