The South Indian film Jailer 2 has become the first of its kind to secure midnight screenings across North Indian cinemas in its original language, marking a significant milestone for regional cinema distribution.
Jailer 2, the latest offering from the South Indian film industry, has achieved a historic first by securing midnight showings in cinemas across North India while retaining its original language. The decision by theater owners to schedule the film at 12:30 a.m. reflects growing confidence in the commercial viability of South Indian movies beyond their traditional markets.
The midnight slots were made available after the release of the Hindi dubbed versions of Rajinikanth starrers, which replaced earlier titles such as Nayyi Navelli and Prahaar in several multiplexes. By offering Jailer 2 in its original Tamil version, distributors aimed to cater to the sizable Tamil-speaking diaspora in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.
Industry analysts note that this move could pave the way for more regional films to be screened in their native languages across the country, potentially reshaping the distribution model for South cinema. The film’s success in North Indian theaters is expected to influence future release strategies for other regional blockbusters.
