ISRO chief says no privatisation, urges growth of space economy

He dismissed any plans for privatisation, stressing that the agency's public‑sector status is essential for national security and strategic autonomy.

Somanath highlighted that while the organisation itself will stay under government control, the broader space ecosystem must evolve. He urged stakeholders to foster a vibrant space economy through increased private participation in satellite manufacturing, launch services, and downstream applications, without compromising ISRO's core missions.

The chief also called for greater collaboration between ISRO and emerging Indian space startups, suggesting policy support and infrastructure sharing to accelerate innovation. He concluded by asserting that a robust space economy will not only generate revenue but also create high‑skill jobs and reinforce India's position in the global space arena.
