A video of IPS officer Ankita Sharma firing an AK‑47 while dressed in a saree has gone viral, prompting widespread commentary on her background.
A short clip showing IPS officer Ankita Sharma handling an AK‑47 rifle while wearing a traditional saree has rapidly circulated on social media platforms. The video, posted on a public channel, quickly amassed thousands of views and sparked a flood of comments from netizens across the country.
The Times of India identified the officer as Ankita Sharma, an Indian Police Service cadre who has been serving in a senior capacity. In the footage, she demonstrates the weapon’s operation as part of a training exercise, though the exact context of the drill has not been disclosed by the police department.
Online reactions have focused not only on the striking visual of a uniformed woman in a saree handling a military‑grade firearm, but also on reports that Sharma scored only five marks in a school examination. The combination of her modest academic record and her current role has ignited debates about merit, representation and the image of women in the police force.
Authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the video’s release or the officer’s academic history, and the police department has declined to comment on the training exercise itself.
