The Rajasthan Atomic Power Project has begun the initial loading of nuclear fuel into its newly built units 7 and 8, a pivotal step before the reactors go online.
The Department of Atomic Energy confirmed that the first batch of nuclear fuel has been introduced into units 7 and 8 at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP). This marks the commencement of the fuel‑loading phase for the two reactors, which are the latest additions to the plant's capacity.
Fuel loading is a critical operational milestone that follows extensive construction, testing and safety checks. Once the fuel assemblies are fully positioned, the reactors will undergo a series of controlled criticality tests before being cleared for commercial power generation.
Officials indicated that the process is being closely monitored by senior nuclear safety officers to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards. Successful completion will move RAPP closer to adding significant new power output to Rajasthan's electricity grid.
