An industry association has warned Karnataka that flat Indian-made liquor sales from April to September could dent the state’s excise revenue.
The trade body representing Indian-made liquor producers said that sales across the sector remained flat during the April‑September window, showing no growth compared with the previous period.
Because excise duties on these beverages form a significant part of Karnataka's fiscal intake, the association cautioned that the lack of sales momentum could translate into lower revenue for the state treasury.
Officials from the Karnataka Excise Department have been approached for comment, while the industry body urged the government to consider policy measures that could stimulate demand and protect fiscal health.
The warning comes amid broader concerns about the post‑pandemic recovery of the domestic liquor market, with analysts noting that consumer spending patterns remain uneven across regions.
