Indore Youth Drowns in Choral River During Ganesh Immersion

A 22‑year‑old student from Indore, Ritik, drowned in the Choral River while taking part in a Ganesh idol immersion. He could not swim and succumbed to the deep water.
Indore police confirmed that a young man identified as Ritik, a resident of the city, lost his life on Saturday while accompanying friends for a Ganesh idol immersion in the Choral River. The group had gathered near the riverbank to perform the traditional ritual, but the teenager entered the deeper section of the water despite not being able to swim.
According to eyewitnesses, the friends were occupied with arranging the immersion platform and the idol, and did not notice the youth struggling in the water until it was too late. Rescue teams were alerted, but Ritik could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution during religious processions near water bodies, especially for those who cannot swim. The incident has sparked calls for better safety measures and supervision during future Ganesh immersion events in the region.
The police have opened a case of accidental death and are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident. No further injuries were reported among the other participants.
