In Indore, a strike by municipal cleaners on Tuesday disrupted the city’s waste‑management system, leaving many neighbourhoods without garbage trucks and streets uncleaned.
On Tuesday, municipal cleaners in Indore went on strike, demanding better wages and working conditions. The walkout halted the city’s garbage‑collection schedule, causing garbage trucks to miss several routes. Residents in affected areas reported piles of waste accumulating on streets and in alleys, with no cleanup crews arriving to clear the mess.
The Indore Municipal Corporation has yet to release a timetable for resuming normal operations. Local officials have urged the workers to return to work and have offered to negotiate a settlement. In the meantime, citizens are calling for alternative waste‑management measures to prevent further public health risks.
The strike has highlighted longstanding grievances among sanitation workers, who often work under challenging conditions. The city’s administration is under pressure to address these concerns while restoring essential services for the public.
