Indore Crime Branch Returns 238 Stolen Mobiles Worth ₹75 Lakh on Raksha Bandhan

The Indore Crime Branch, using the Citizen app and CEIR portal, recovered 238 stolen mobile phones, including 11 iPhones, and handed them back to owners on Raksha Bandhan.
Indore's Crime Branch announced that it had recovered 238 mobile phones reported stolen, with an estimated market value of about ₹75 lakh. The recovery was carried out on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, leveraging data from the Citizen mobile‑theft app and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal to trace the devices.
Among the seized phones were 11 iPhone models, which were linked to thefts reported in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The cross‑state tracing capability of the CEIR database enabled investigators to match the IMEI numbers of the recovered devices with the original owners across these regions.
The Crime Branch officials handed over the phones to their rightful owners after verification, describing the operation as a "big gift" to the public on the festive day. The successful return of such a large number of stolen devices underscores the growing effectiveness of digital tools in combating mobile‑theft crimes in India.
