The Indore Municipal Corporation has decided to impose penalties for one year on buildings that lack rainwater harvesting systems. During inspections, fines were levied on marriage halls, schools and lodges, while 11 compliant sites were geo‑tagged.
The municipal corporation’s move aims to strengthen water conservation in the city as part of broader environmental initiatives. Officials said that the one‑year action period will allow owners to install the required systems before facing stricter penalties.
During the recent inspection drive, teams visited numerous big schools, marriage halls and lodges across Indore. Those found without functional rainwater harvesting were issued notices and fined, while the authorities recorded the geo‑tags of 11 locations that already had proper systems in place.
Corporation officials emphasized that the initiative is not punitive but educational, urging citizens to adopt sustainable practices. They added that further awareness campaigns will be conducted to help builders and property owners comply with the norm.
