Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh announced a strategy to lift India to the number one position in global silk production.
India is already one of the world’s largest silk producers, but the government has set a new target to surpass all competitors and become the top producer worldwide.
During a recent press briefing, Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh outlined a comprehensive plan aimed at boosting sericulture across the country. The strategy focuses on expanding cultivation areas, improving farmer support, and encouraging private investment in silk production.
Key measures include increased subsidies for silk farmers, investment in research and development of high‑yield mulberry varieties, and the establishment of modern processing units to add value to raw silk.
The minister emphasized that achieving this goal would strengthen India’s position in global textile markets and create new employment opportunities in rural communities.
