India's gross domestic product grew 7.8% year‑on‑year in the first quarter of FY27, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The rise was largely attributed to strong investment and manufacturing activity.

India's gross domestic product registered a 7.8% year‑on‑year increase in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 (October‑December 2025), as reported by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI). The data, released on 25 September 2026, highlighted robust growth in the investment and manufacturing sectors as the primary drivers.

Investment spending rose by 9.2% in the quarter, while manufacturing output climbed 6.5%, contributing significantly to the overall GDP expansion. The growth rate surpassed the 7.5% forecast made by the government’s economic team.

Economists note that the strong performance comes amid global supply‑chain disruptions and inflationary pressures, suggesting resilience in India’s domestic economy. The Ministry added that the growth momentum is expected to continue in the coming quarters, provided key policy measures remain in place.
