Economist Sanjeev Sanyal says India’s economy is robust with a 7.8% growth rate, but global headwinds could pose challenges.

Economist Sanjeev Sanyal highlighted the latest GDP data, which shows India’s economy expanding at a 7.8% annual rate. He described the figure as evidence of strong domestic demand and resilient production.

Sanyal noted that the growth momentum is being driven by a combination of consumer spending, investment in infrastructure, and a buoyant services sector. These factors, he said, have helped the economy outperform many peers.

However, he cautioned that the outlook remains vulnerable to external shocks. Global risks such as geopolitical tensions, a slowdown in major trading partners, and volatility in commodity prices could dampen the growth trajectory.

He urged policymakers to maintain a balanced approach, reinforcing fiscal prudence while supporting sectors that can absorb external shocks, to sustain the current pace of expansion.
