India's Wholesale Price Index for August rose to 9.92% year‑on‑year, the highest in a year, driven mainly by persistent fuel price hikes.
India's Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for August climbed to 9.92% year‑on‑year, up from 9.71% in July and marking the highest reading in a year. The rise was largely attributed to a 2.5% increase in the fuel price component, which edged up from 2.4% in the previous month. Food inflation stood at 8.5% and non‑food inflation at 10.3%, both relatively stable compared to earlier months. The Reserve Bank of India and government officials are monitoring the trend closely, as sustained high WPI readings could influence future monetary policy decisions.
