Air Chief Marshal AP Singh told the Tangram Shakti‑2026 forum that the United States has not made an official proposal to sell the F‑35 to India, and that a final decision on Russia’s Su‑57 remains unsettled.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, speaking at the Tangram Shakti‑2026 event, clarified that the United States has not extended a formal offer to supply the fifth‑generation F‑35 fighter jet to the Indian Air Force. He emphasized that while discussions on advanced platforms continue, no official proposal has been received from Washington.
The marshal also addressed queries about Russia’s fifth‑generation Su‑57 aircraft. He stated that the Indian defence establishment is still evaluating the aircraft and that no conclusive decision has been taken regarding its acquisition.
These remarks come amid ongoing deliberations within the Ministry of Defence about modernising the IAF’s fleet, with both the F‑35 and Su‑57 being among the options under review.
The Air Chief’s comments underscore the complexity of India’s procurement choices, balancing strategic partnerships, technology transfer considerations, and operational requirements.
Further updates are expected as the government finalises its long‑term fighter procurement strategy.
