The 2027 national census will begin its online self‑enumeration phase on 16 November, allowing households to submit data digitally.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that the 2027 Census of India will commence its online self‑enumeration on 16 November. Residents across the country will be able to access a dedicated portal to enter household information without the need for paper forms.
The digital questionnaire covers basic demographic details, housing characteristics and socio‑economic indicators. Participants are expected to complete the form within a stipulated period, after which the data will be consolidated centrally to aid in timely release of census results.
Moving away from the traditional paper‑based approach, the government aims to improve accuracy, reduce processing time and lower logistical costs. To ensure inclusivity, community help‑desks and mobile assistance units will be set up in areas with limited internet connectivity.
The information collected will feed into policy planning, resource allocation and development programmes at both national and state levels, with strict confidentiality safeguards in place.
