India and New Zealand have activated their free trade agreement, granting duty‑free entry for a wide range of goods and services. The pact aims to boost bilateral trade and investment between the two nations.

The India‑New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) officially came into force today, marking a significant milestone in the economic relationship between the two countries. Under the pact, most goods traded between India and New Zealand will now enter each market without customs duties, creating new opportunities for exporters and consumers alike.

The agreement covers a broad spectrum of products, including agricultural commodities, manufactured goods, and services. It also includes provisions to protect intellectual property rights and to promote fair competition, ensuring a level playing field for businesses on both sides.

Trade analysts predict that the duty‑free regime could increase bilateral trade volume by up to 10% over the next five years. Both governments have highlighted the potential for increased investment flows, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and information technology.

The FTA is part of India’s broader strategy to diversify its trade partners and strengthen economic ties with the Asia‑Pacific region. New Zealand, for its part, views the agreement as a gateway to one of the world’s fastest‑growing economies.

"This agreement opens up new avenues for our businesses and consumers," said a spokesperson from the Indian Ministry of Commerce. "We look forward to a robust trade relationship with New Zealand moving forward."
