The Ministry of Railways has set a target to manufacture between 800 and 1,000 LHB coaches within a year, aiming to replace ageing ICF coaches and boost passenger safety and comfort.

The Indian Railways has announced an ambitious production target for the next twelve months, aiming to roll out roughly 800 to 1,000 state‑of‑the‑art LHB (Linke‑Hofmann‑Busch) coaches. The goal is part of a broader effort to enhance passenger safety and comfort across the national network.

The production drive will be undertaken by the railway's dedicated manufacturing units, which have been instructed to meet the stipulated quota within the stipulated timeframe. By focusing on LHB technology, the railways intend to leverage its superior crash‑worthiness, higher speed potential, and lower maintenance requirements compared to older designs.

These new coaches are slated to replace the aging ICF (Integral Coach Factory) coaches that have been in service for decades. The phased substitution is expected to modernise the fleet, reduce operational downtimes, and provide a more reliable travel experience for commuters.

Officials anticipate that the influx of modern coaches will not only improve safety standards but also raise overall passenger satisfaction, aligning with the railways' long‑term vision of a world‑class transport system.
