Indian Railways has announced a 764‑km rail expansion project in Bihar’s Seemanchal region to improve connectivity and support economic growth.

Indian Railways has announced a major infrastructure initiative to construct 764 kilometres of new railway lines in Bihar’s Seemanchal region, a move aimed at significantly improving connectivity in this historically underserved area.

The Seemanchal region, situated in eastern Bihar along the Nepal border, has long suffered from limited rail access. The new lines will link several districts, providing residents with faster, more reliable transport to markets, educational institutions and healthcare facilities.

This project is part of the central government’s broader strategy to upgrade transportation networks across the state and to stimulate economic activity in the region. By enhancing rail links, the initiative also seeks to facilitate cross‑border trade with Nepal.

Construction is slated to commence shortly, with detailed timelines and progress updates expected in the coming months. The expansion is projected to create jobs during the build‑out and improve daily mobility for thousands of commuters.
