The Indian Navy will commission the Mangrol anti‑submarine warfare craft today, a vessel designed to work with patrol aircraft, helicopters and other ships to detect and neutralise submarine threats.

The Indian Navy is set to commission the Mangrol anti‑submarine warfare (ASW) craft today, marking the addition of a specialised platform to its fleet. The ceremony is expected to take place at the naval base near Mangrol, Gujarat, where the vessel has been built and readied for service.

Designed to operate in concert with maritime patrol aircraft, naval helicopters and other warships, the Mangrol ASW craft enhances the Navy's ability to locate and counter underwater threats. Its integrated sensors and weapons systems enable coordinated detection, tracking and engagement of hostile submarines.

The commissioning underscores India's focus on strengthening maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region. By expanding its ASW capabilities, the Navy aims to protect vital sea lanes and deter potential adversaries from exploiting underwater avenues.

Naval officials have highlighted that the new craft will complement existing surface and aerial assets, creating a layered defence network capable of rapid response to submarine incursions.
