The Indian Coast Guard officially inducted the indigenously built offshore patrol vessel ICGS Ajit, enhancing the nation’s maritime security capabilities.
The Indian Coast Guard held a commissioning ceremony for the offshore patrol vessel ICGS Ajit, marking the entry of a fully indigenous ship into its fleet. The vessel, constructed in Indian shipyards, reflects the country’s growing self‑reliance in maritime defence production.
Officials highlighted that adding ICGS Ajit strengthens the Coast Guard’s ability to monitor India’s extensive coastline and exclusive economic zone. The ship’s modern sensors and endurance are expected to improve surveillance, anti‑smuggling operations and search‑and‑rescue missions.
The commissioning underscores a broader push by the Ministry of Defence to expand domestic shipbuilding capacity, reducing dependence on foreign platforms and supporting the national ‘Make in India’ agenda.
