A India Today news team was assaulted by unidentified individuals in Pulivendula, Andhra Pradesh, while covering the state’s local body polls.

Pulivendula, a town in Andhra Pradesh, became the scene of a violent incident on Tuesday when members of the India Today news crew were attacked while reporting on the ongoing local body elections. Eyewitnesses said a group of unidentified persons approached the journalists and physically assaulted them, forcing the team to retreat from the area.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of the polling station, where the crew was documenting voter turnout and election activities. No injuries were reported among the journalists, and the crew managed to secure their equipment before leaving the site.

Local police have opened an investigation into the assault, urging anyone with information to come forward. The authorities have also warned that any attempts to intimidate media personnel during the electoral process will be dealt with strictly, emphasizing the need to protect press freedom during the democratic exercise.

The attack has drawn condemnation from media bodies across the country, which called for swift action to ensure the safety of reporters covering the polls. The Election Commission of India reiterated its commitment to a free and fair election, stating that any interference with journalists will be treated as a serious violation of electoral norms.
