India to Join EU’s Horizon Europe Research Programme

India has reached an agreement to participate in the Horizon Europe programme, the European Union’s flagship research and innovation framework for 2021‑2027. The €93.5 billion initiative will allow Indian researchers and institutions to collaborate on projects ranging from climate science to digital technology. The decision follows months of negotiations between the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology and EU officials, and is expected to strengthen scientific ties between the two regions. India’s entry into Horizon Europe will also open access to funding, expertise and global networks for Indian scientists. The programme is set to launch in 2021, with India’s participation slated to begin in the upcoming call cycles.
