Union Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced a plan to build 100 new airports across India within ten years, aiming to boost connectivity and regional growth.

New Delhi – Union Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu revealed on Monday that the government intends to commission 100 new airports across the country over the next ten years. The proposal was presented as part of a broader push to expand India’s civil aviation infrastructure and to meet rising passenger demand.

The plan targets underserved regions and tier‑2 and tier‑3 cities, with the goal of reducing travel time, encouraging tourism, and attracting investment to peripheral economies. Officials said the new airports will be built under a mix of public‑private partnership models, leveraging both central funding and private sector expertise.

Implementation is slated to begin in the 2024‑25 fiscal year, with a phased rollout that prioritises strategic corridors identified by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. While exact project costs have not been disclosed, the ministry indicated that the scheme will align with the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” agenda and complement ongoing runway upgrades at existing hubs.

Industry analysts caution that land acquisition, environmental clearances, and coordination with state governments could pose challenges, but they also note that the scale of the initiative signals a decisive shift toward making air travel more accessible to a larger segment of the population.
