The Indian defence ministry announced plans to procure the American Javelin anti‑tank guided missile system.
New Delhi – The Ministry of Defence confirmed that India will purchase the Javelin anti‑tank guided missile system from the United States as part of its ongoing modernisation drive. The decision follows a series of recent procurements aimed at strengthening the army’s fire‑power against armoured threats.
The Javelin, a fire‑and‑forget missile with infrared guidance, is designed to engage and destroy tanks, fortified positions and low‑flying aerial targets. Its portability and top‑attack capability make it a preferred choice for infantry units operating in diverse terrains.
Acquiring the system is expected to enhance the Indian Army’s short‑range anti‑armor capability and provide a technological edge in potential high‑intensity conflicts. Integration with existing platforms will be coordinated with the US defence industry to ensure seamless operational readiness.
