Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said India is treating relief operations for Nepal's recent floods as its highest priority, highlighting the close bilateral relationship.
New Delhi – In a statement to the media, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar affirmed that the Indian government has placed the relief effort for the flood‑hit regions of Nepal at the highest level of its agenda. He said that India is mobilising resources, including rescue teams, medical aid and essential supplies, to assist the affected Nepali districts.
Jaishankar highlighted the long‑standing friendship between the two neighbours and stressed that swift assistance is crucial to prevent further loss of life and livelihood. He also mentioned that coordination mechanisms with the Nepali authorities are already in place to ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable communities quickly.
The floods, which have swollen rivers and triggered landslides across several provinces of Nepal, have left thousands homeless and disrupted transport and power networks. India’s response, according to the minister, will involve both central and state agencies working in tandem with Nepal’s disaster management officials.
While the exact volume of aid has not been disclosed, the minister assured that the deployment will be scaled up as the situation evolves, reaffirming India’s commitment to stand by Nepal in times of crisis.
