India and New Zealand are exploring trilateral defense cooperation with Australia following the Tarang Shakti naval exercise, which saw joint drills between India and Australia in the Indian Ocean.

India and New Zealand are reportedly looking to strengthen defence ties with Australia after the recent Tarang Shakti naval exercise.

Tarang Shakti, held in the Indian Ocean, was a joint drill between the Indian and Australian navies that focused on maritime security, search and rescue and anti‑piracy operations.

Following the exercise, officials from India and New Zealand have discussed the possibility of a trilateral framework that could include joint training, intelligence sharing and coordinated maritime patrols.

The talks are part of a broader effort by both countries to enhance security cooperation in the Indo‑Pacific region and to respond to growing maritime challenges.

No formal agreement has been signed yet, but the discussions signal a growing interest in a closer defence partnership among the three nations.
