India launches its first orbital computing satellite from Sriharikota

India's space agency ISRO lifted off its first orbital computing satellite from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota today, ushering in a new era of on‑board data processing capabilities.
The satellite is equipped to perform computing tasks directly in orbit, reducing the need to transmit raw data back to ground stations for analysis. This approach aims to cut latency and bandwidth requirements for applications ranging from Earth observation to scientific research.
Experts say the mission demonstrates India's growing expertise in integrating advanced computing with space technology, positioning the country to offer more autonomous and efficient satellite services.
The launch aligns with ISRO's broader strategy to expand indigenous satellite platforms and enhance the nation's self‑reliance in critical space infrastructure.
Further details on the satellite's specifications and planned operational timeline are expected to be released by ISRO in the coming weeks.
