During the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, India and the World Food Programme met to discuss strategies for tackling global food security and humanitarian crises.
The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly convened in New York on 20 September, where India’s delegation and the World Food Programme (WFP) held a side‑by‑side meeting to address pressing humanitarian challenges.
India highlighted the growing food‑security crisis in South Asia, urging the international community to increase funding for WFP’s emergency relief operations.
WFP officials emphasized the need for coordinated action to counteract the impacts of climate change, conflict and pandemics on vulnerable populations.
Both parties agreed to strengthen collaboration on data sharing and rapid response mechanisms, and pledged to present a joint proposal to the General Assembly on 25 September.
