India and Nepal have signed a Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement on Criminal Matters, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in investigations and evidence sharing.
India and Nepal have formalised a Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement on Criminal Matters, a step that will streamline cross‑border cooperation in criminal investigations. The agreement, signed by officials from both countries, allows for the exchange of evidence, documents and expert assistance in cases that involve nationals or assets in either jurisdiction. It also establishes procedures for the timely transfer of suspects and the sharing of forensic information. The treaty is expected to strengthen law‑enforcement ties and help both nations combat transnational crime more effectively. Officials from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs in India and their counterparts in Nepal will oversee the implementation of the agreement.
