India and Mauritius have signed a five-year agreement for the supply of fuel, strengthening energy cooperation between the two nations.
New Delhi and Port Louis concluded a bilateral agreement that will see India supply fuel to Mauritius for the next five years. The deal, signed by senior officials from both governments, aims to ensure a stable and reliable energy flow to the island nation, which relies heavily on imported petroleum products.
Under the terms of the pact, Indian state-owned oil companies will deliver refined petroleum and possibly other fuel grades to Mauritius on a regular schedule. The agreement also includes provisions for technical cooperation and capacity building in the energy sector, reflecting a broader strategic partnership.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Mauritian Minister of Energy, who highlighted the mutual benefits of the arrangement. Both sides expect the pact to boost trade volumes and reinforce Mauritius' energy security while opening new market opportunities for Indian exporters.
Analysts view the agreement as part of India's outreach to Indian Ocean nations, aiming to deepen economic ties and counterbalance regional competition. The five-year term provides a framework for future extensions and deeper collaboration in renewable energy and infrastructure development.
