Indian and Italian officials met to exchange views on counter‑terrorism, drug smuggling and organised crime threats, emphasizing cooperation.

Senior officials from the ministries of external affairs of India and Italy convened to discuss shared security challenges. The bilateral dialogue focused on three core threats: terrorism, drug trafficking and organised crime, which both countries say are increasingly transnational in nature.

Representatives highlighted recent incidents that underscore the need for coordinated action, noting that criminal networks exploit porous borders and digital platforms to move illicit substances and finance extremist activities. Both sides agreed that intelligence sharing and joint investigations are essential to disrupt these networks.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to deepen cooperation through regular information exchanges, capacity‑building programmes for law‑enforcement agencies, and the establishment of a joint task force to monitor and counter emerging threats. Officials also pledged to schedule follow‑up talks within the next six months to assess progress.

This engagement reflects a broader trend of Indo‑European collaboration on security, building on earlier agreements in counter‑terrorism and maritime policing.
