A man posing as a Crime Branch official duped an elderly resident of Indore, stole a gold ring and escaped, police said.
Police in Indore reported that a man pretending to be an officer of the Crime Branch approached an elderly citizen, claiming to be there for an official verification. He convinced the senior citizen to hand over a gold ring, alleging it was required for documentation, and then absconded with the jewellery.
The investigation team has launched a manhunt after the victim lodged a complaint. According to officials, the suspect was dressed in a uniform resembling that of the Crime Branch and carried forged identification, making it difficult for the victim to verify his authenticity.
Authorities have warned the public to remain vigilant and verify the credentials of any law‑enforcement official before handing over valuables or personal information. The police have also appealed for any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.
