The IMF’s latest World Economic Outlook upgrades India’s growth outlook to 7.0% for both 2026 and 2027, keeping it the fastest‑growing major economy.
The International Monetary Fund, in its most recent World Economic Outlook, has raised its projection for India’s gross domestic product growth to 7.0% in both 2026 and 2027. This upward revision places India at the top of the list of major economies in terms of annual expansion rates.
The IMF defines “major economies” as the larger, market‑oriented nations that dominate global trade and investment. With the new estimate, India outpaces other G20 members such as the United States, China and the Eurozone, which are expected to grow at slower rates.
The fund attributes the robust outlook to strong domestic consumption, a resilient services sector and ongoing structural reforms that are improving the business climate. Analysts say the forecast could attract further foreign investment and support policy makers in sustaining the growth momentum.
Earlier forecasts had projected a slightly lower pace for the same period, but the IMF’s latest data reflects improved performance indicators and a more optimistic global environment for emerging markets.
