The International Monetary Fund has projected that India's gross domestic product will expand by 7% in both fiscal years 2026 and 2027, signalling strong growth momentum.

The IMF’s latest World Economic Outlook released this month projects India’s GDP growth at 7% for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.

This marks a slight uptick from the 6.6% growth forecast for FY25, reflecting the IMF’s confidence in India’s continued macro‑economic stability and policy reforms.

The agency highlighted that India’s large domestic market, demographic dividend and ongoing structural reforms are expected to sustain the growth trajectory.

The forecast comes as India’s economy rebounds from the pandemic‑induced slowdown and is poised to become the world’s fastest‑growing major economy.

Economists note that a 7% growth rate would keep India ahead of many emerging markets and support job creation and poverty reduction goals.
