The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for the Sub‑Himalayan regions of West Bengal and Sikkim, warning that the next 48 hours could see significant precipitation.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall over the Sub‑Himalayan belt of West Bengal and Sikkim for the next two days. The alert covers districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar in West Bengal, as well as North Sikkim, South Sikkim and Gyalshing in Sikkim.
Meteorologists predict that the region could receive up to 200 mm of rain in some areas, increasing the risk of flooding, landslides and road blockages. Local authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and to avoid unnecessary travel.
Farmers in the hilly districts are advised to secure crops and livestock, while commuters are cautioned about potential disruptions on major highways and rail lines.
