The India Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for Delhi, urging residents to stay alert as heavy rain and lightning are forecasted.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a thunderstorm alert for the National Capital Territory of Delhi, indicating that the city is likely to experience intense convective activity over the next few hours. Meteorologists expect scattered thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall, strong gusts of wind, and frequent lightning strikes across the metropolitan area.
Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution while traveling, especially on highways and flyovers, as sudden downpours could reduce visibility and create slippery road conditions. Residents are also urged to secure loose objects, avoid open fields, and stay indoors during the peak of the storm.
The IMD has recommended that local disaster management agencies remain on standby to respond to any emergencies, including waterlogging or power disruptions that may arise from the severe weather. Continuous updates will be provided through official channels as the situation evolves.
People are reminded to keep emergency kits handy, including flashlights, batteries, and basic medical supplies, and to follow safety guidelines issued by the department. The alert remains in effect until the storm subsides, after which a post‑event assessment will be conducted.
The forecast underscores the need for heightened vigilance during the monsoon transition period, as Delhi frequently experiences rapid weather changes that can impact daily life and infrastructure.
