The India Meteorological Department has placed Chhattisgarh under a red alert, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the state of Chhattisgarh, signalling the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next few days. The warning, the highest level in the IMD’s alert system, was released following a rapid intensification of low‑pressure systems in the region.

Meteorologists expect the downpours to be widespread, affecting both urban centres and rural districts. Local authorities have been advised to prepare for flash floods, water‑logging and potential landslides in hilly areas. Emergency response teams are on standby, and relief supplies are being pre‑positioned in vulnerable blocks.

The public has been urged to stay informed through official channels, avoid low‑lying areas, and secure property against water damage. Residents are also advised to refrain from driving through flooded roads and to cooperate with any evacuation orders issued by district administrations.

While Chhattisgarh experiences monsoon rains annually, a red‑alert level indicates an intensity that exceeds normal seasonal patterns. The department will continue to monitor the situation and update the alert as the weather evolves.
