The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall alert for October 20, urging preparedness across the country.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for October 20, 2024, covering large portions of the country.
The alert, issued in the early hours, highlights the likelihood of intense showers that could lead to flooding and landslides in vulnerable regions.
Officials have advised state governments to activate emergency response plans, clear drainage systems, and issue public advisories. Residents are urged to stay informed through local media and the IMD’s official channels.
This warning comes amid the ongoing monsoon season, during which India regularly experiences heavy rainfall. The IMD’s forecast models predict sustained precipitation across multiple states, prompting heightened vigilance.
Meteorologists say the heavy rain is expected to bring relief to drought‑affected areas but also pose risks to infrastructure and agriculture.
