Illegal Liquor Distillery Discovered in Sundargarh Forest, Odisha

Police officials conducting routine surveillance in the forested region of Sundargarh district reported the discovery of an unlicensed liquor distillation setup. The unit, concealed among dense foliage, was found to be operating without any legal permits or safety clearances. Local authorities have taken control of the site and are initiating a formal investigation.

Sundargarh, located in northern Odisha, is known for its extensive forest cover and tribal communities. The presence of an illegal alcohol production unit raises concerns about illicit trade, potential health hazards, and the exploitation of forest resources. Officials highlighted that such operations often evade tax regulations and can fund other unlawful activities.

The police have sealed the premises and are gathering evidence to file appropriate charges under the state's excise and forest protection laws. A statement from the district administration indicated that further action will be taken against those responsible, and efforts are underway to prevent similar setups in the region.
